Bitty & Beau’s

November 6th.

Another day, another coffee shop. Not to sound corny but this isn’t actually just another coffee shop at all, Bitty & Beau’s is a brand out to truly make a difference. These shops employ individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Upon a quick Google search and reading their story on their website I found they have four locations. The first shop is in Wilmington, North Carolina and the others are in Annapolis, MD, Charleston, SC, and of course I found my way into the one in Savannah.

I had no idea that over 80% of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are unemployed nationwide. The family that started Bitty & Beau’s has four children, two of which have down syndrome, and they quickly became advocates for the community. Starting this brand is tackling those disability unemployment numbers. Isn’t that how people change lives and the world? When your work ethic, passion, and personal connection link together it is an unstoppable force.

So yes, grab your coffee and your muffin, and yes enjoy it! Support a cause that supports another person. This is not just a chain pumping out burnt coffee at 300% markup. They are truly changing people’s lives.
