Collins Quarter Forsyth
We all have the check in moments where we cannot believe how much time has passed since we last said we would do something. And in this case, for me, that is my blog. But after this amazing lunch I had the other day I just needed to share.
I think when we travel, visit, or move somewhere different we aspire to find the places that make the city or town what it is. For Savannah, that is places of creativity. Growing up in the North, I believe a lot of people (at least where I am from) stereotypically think of the South as biscuits and friend chicken. While of course that exists (and is awesome), the South is a blooming place of innovation, a mesh of different Southern cultures, traditions, and states. Places that take traditions from older generations and blend them with their new perspectives are something that Sav excels at. My example of this is Collins Quarter in Forsyth Park.
You can get your shrimp and grits, but upgraded with chipotle-tomato fondue and Tasso ham. Into decadent French toast? How about brioche bread with passionfruit curd and raspberry compote? I’ll skip syrup for fruit any day. And seriously, look how beautiful.
So when planning your prospective trip to Savannah, skip the chain restaurant or the touristy downtown gimmick of a particular celebrity chef (I won’t name names but everyone who lives in Sav will tell you it is not a real example of Southern food or hospitality). Explore the new South, the one that has new creative minds changing the way people look at Georgia.
