Sav Days 12 & 13
Ok so yesterday got away from me a little, and while I did find a business to support I didn’t write the blog on that day. So today is a combination of October 12th and October 13th.
Exciting news in my world, I just got two new jobs over here in Savannah! So now I will be running my business, teaching at a local studio, and working part time for another company here. More details to come on that as it unfolds. So after wrapping up some details for work, on my walk home it occurred to me at 3 pm I have barely eaten for the day. I had two morning classes as well, so needless to say when it hit me it was like a brick. I got on my phone to find somewhere to eat, because its 2020 and that’s what we do now, praise the almighty Yelp. Landed myself at Fox And Fig Cafe. This local spot is an advocate for other small business as well. check this out from their website:
“Fox & Fig Cafe proudly serves locally roasted PERC coffee paired with house-made cashew-hemp milk, Leopold's Ice Cream Milky Shakes, Auspicious Baking Co. bread and croissants, raw cashew cheesecakes, Greg's Famous Hot Sauce, teas by Moon by Moon Apothecary and vegan baked goods from our sister cafe Henny Penny Cafe.”
This vegan cafe had an awesome menu, seriously I could have eaten everything, but I went with this cashew cheese garlic bread. Peep the picture and description.
Absolutely no filters or editing needed. This cashew mozzarella, garlic aioli, ciabatta, and masala chai infused tomato sauce blew my mind. Leo and I could not stop eating it. I could lie and say I waited for him to get home, but I couldn’t. I had three pieces immediately upon my arrival at home.
I normally would eat there, but with Covid there are only open for takeout, but that’s ok with me, I can always appreciate when a business puts safety and health first.
And now for today, 10/13. The day started for me at 5:13am when my dog started repeatedly hopping off all fours in surprise when she hears one of my cats. Here is the long story short; my two cats, Toni and Cannoli, and my dog Kaley are still adjusting to one another. Kaley has been with Leo for the past six months in Arizona, and my cats have been with me for the past seven years. Now that we are finally all together its been a game of close the cats in this room for X amount of hours, then Kaley gets put away for a while white the cats explore, we carefully let them see each other for short periods of time, yada yada you get it. They are all sweet girls, we are getting there. But if you have any tips, please don’t hesitate to reach out and let me know.
Looping back around here, early wake up, 6am client, some work, 9:15am class, so by 10:15am I was so ready for some coffee and food. Took a short walk here in the Starland District of Savannah, to go to Blue Door for an iced latte and waffles.
I wasn't expecting anything in particular in terms of decor; coffee shop couches, ordering counter, the occasional bookshelf, and whatnot, Inside I found what I would assume an owner who is a huge Star Wars, comic, or movie fan. I have limited knowledge of any of these things, I seriously hardly even watch movies, we don’t even own a TV! But that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate it. I love when someone is unapologetic and proud of their interests and hobbies, and in this case uses them for business to be inclusive to another audience. The place was so clean and inviting, I can see why people would want to hangout and eat here. You could read, study, and even play video games. It really was pretty cool, check it out:
And of course, the waffles! Mini Belgian waffles with chocolate ganache. Not pictured is the iced latte I had on the side.
I really enjoyed the vibes here, not to mention the two men working there were friendly and chill, much appreciated. This is a reminder to me to not go into a place with expectations, enjoying it for what it is and not trying to make it anything else. I think that is an important lesson to be reminded of anytime in life but especially for me right now with moving to a new area Doing the New York this or Georgia that. They are separate entities, not trying to be one another, not trying to give the same experience. Recognizing differences and not trying to alter them, funny how a coffee shop is what stirred all of that for me.
